Edward Reed McEwan

1937 — April 6, 2015

DELMAR- Edward McEwan passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, April 6, 2015 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Fraser McEwan, father of Reed Fraser McEwan, and Robert Stirling McEwan. He was the father-in-law of Karin McEwan and Laura Hibbard. Ed adored his grandchildren Katie, Will, Camden and Finnegan. We will long remember the fun we had at Small Point, Maine, his favorite place. Ed was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Colgate University, and the Harvard Business School. After serving in the Army, he began his banking career at The State Bank of Albany, now Bank of America. He retired as Regional President in 1990, after which he served as president of Main Care Energy Company, and managed Stuyvesant Plaza. He was a past president of the American Institute of Banking and served on many boards in the community, including the Community Foundation, The Albany Institute of History and Art, Sponsor a Scholar, and Music Mobile. He was a long tenured treasurer of the St. Andrew’s Society, treasurer of the Fort Orange Club, and board president of the Kings Port Club in Naples, Florida, where he enjoyed the warm sun, golf, and beautiful sunsets on the beach. He was a devoted member of the Delmar United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he dedicated his time, talents, and energy on many committees and initiatives. Ed was the brother of Richard McEwan of North Carolina and John McEwan of New Hampshire, and brother-in-law of Helen and Carl Jenkins of North Carolina. He is survived by his niece and several nephews. He appreciated classical music and especially enjoyed going to any live performance, be it opera, choral or orchestral. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, April 12, 2:00 PM at the Delmar Methodist Church, 428 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Delmar, 428 Kenwood Ave, Delmar NY 12054 or Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, 6 Tower Pl., Albany, NY 12203.
