Edward Dominelli

DELMAR - Edward J. Dominelli, 93, entered into eternal rest on November 3, 2012 at Teresian House surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 4, 1919 in Schenectady, Ed was the son of Joseph and Madeline Campachero Dominelli. Ed attended the former Mt. Pleasant High School and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps following graduation. He married the former Rosalie Bonafede of Amsterdam in 1942. Ed began his career in haberdashery as a salesman for Dan A. Donahue, eventually owning and operating Dom Eddy's and Eddy D's Men's Shops in downtown Schenectady. He later opened and managed Steffel Brother's Men's' Shop in Rotterdam. Ed married Ann Vendetti in 1963 and later began a second career as a Code Enforcement Officer for the Town of Bethlehem, where he energetically worked part-time until age 87. Ed was active in the New York State Building Officials Conference and served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Capital District Chapter from 1976-1991. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Italian American Community Center and as a Committeeman for the Town of Bethlehem Republican Committee. Ed loved being surrounded by family and friends, traveling with his wife Ann, gardening in his beautiful yard, golfing with his buddies, bowling with his fellow seniors, and watching his beloved Yankees. Swimming parties at "The Dominelli's" pool and eating Ann and Ed's patented Italian meals were legendary. Holidays were also a special time where the merriment went on and on forever. Ed's family affectionately called him "The Godfather" for his ability to offer sound guidance and advice to others, while colleagues dubbed him the "Mayor of Delmar" for his friendly and sociable personality. Ed will be fondly remembered and missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Ann; sons Louis DiLillo (Sue) of Lubbock, Texas, and Edward T. Dominelli (Janis) of Delmar; daughters Hope Cameron of Coeymans Hollow, and Deborah Van Wely of Albany; brother Ralph of Schenectady; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers James and Joseph Dominelli, and son Dennis DiLillo. The family would like to thank the Carmelite Sisters and staff of Teresian House, and the staff of Delmar Place for the compassionate care and support given to Ed and his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 9, from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar.
