DELMAR – Edmond Robert Habich, 86, a lifelong resident of New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
Born August 8, 1930 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Alois and Maria (Meier) Habich. Edmond graduated from Woodbridge High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In his early years, he worked in his father's auto body shop, Avon Auto Body in Newark, NJ, and later as an insurance adjustor and a chemist. He then worked 38 years in the Southboundbrook, NJ post office, retiring at age 86 in September of 2016. As a hobby, he was a very talented artist (painter), enjoyed doing inlay work with wood on furniture and making clocks. He enjoyed animals, especially his cats and dogs.
Edmond will be very much missed by his family. Survivors include sisters, Millie Ehring and her husband Jack of Palm Harbor, FL and Klara Becker of Germany; nieces and nephew, Carolee Whitman and her husband Brian of Selkirk, Dan Ehring and his wife Jami of Glenmont, Amy Penzabene and her husband Frank of Ravena and Pattie Jarmolych and her husband Bill of Palm Harbor, FL; and grand nieces and nephews, Sean, Chad and Shelby Whitman; Madison and Raegan Ehring; Tanner, Zack, Logan and Cooper Penzabene; and Nick, Samantha, Jackie, Josh and Spencer Jarmolych. In addition to his parents, Edmond was predeceased by a brother, Walter Habich.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 9 am Wednesday, January 11th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Burial will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
