ALBANY – Dorothy M. Kahnle, 91, a longtime resident of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Atria Crossgate.
Dorothy was born in Albany, the only child of Emil and Margaret Miller. She graduated from Albany High School on June 28, 1944. Dot started working the next day for the New York Telephone Co., embarking upon a 40 year career until her retirement from NYNEX on April 1, 1985. On Nov. 8, 1974, she married Robert G. Kahnle. Bob passed away on August 24, 2014, just shy of their 40th wedding anniversary. Dot's memberships included the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Albany, American Legion Auxiliary, Post 1040 in Delmar and AARP. Her many enjoyments included reading, playing pinochle with her husband and relatives, traveling the country with her husband after their retirement, and passionately following the professional baseball career of her grandson, Tommy.
Survivors include a step-son, Thomas Kahnle; grandchildren, Thomas, Jr.(Veronica), Jessika and Ross, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and several nieces, nephews and their families who loved their Aunt Dot. She was predeceased by a step-son, Ross. Dorothy was very thankful for the loving attention paid to her by her relatives and friends at times when she needed it the most.
Services were private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Holy Spirit Lutheran Cemetery, Glenmont in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 57 Hurlbut St., Albany, NY 12209.
