Dorothy B. Brown entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Born in Hartford, Conn. on April 9, 1921, she was the daughter of Ralph and Winifred Butler. Dorothy lived almost her entire life in Delmar and was a graduate of Bethlehem Central and Albany Business College.
Dorothy was very active in Bethlehem politics. She was head of the Bethlehem Republican Women for many years. She loved Delmar and remained very active serving as president of the Progress Club and Delmar Business Women. She was named Person of the Year in Delmar as well as Business Person of the Year. Dorothy owned and ran Butler and Brown Insurance with her husband Carl for 30 plus years. She enjoyed helping all of her clients and always did it with a smile on her face. Dorothy was also president of the Insurance Women of Albany for several years. Dorothy was a very social person. Besides being involved with business and politics, she enjoyed social gatherings and thoroughly enjoyed her friends and playing bridge. She always had a smile for everyone.
Dorothy was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, son, Richard and four younger brothers, Robert, George, Russell and William.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Carol Van Duzer and her husband Lex Van Duzer; her daughter-in-law, Janet Brown; her grandchildren, Linda Brown-Eudy (John), Jennifer Brown (Jack), Kristen Pommenville (Kevin), and Adam Van Duzer (Jaclyn); her great grandchildren, Lyndsay and Emily Brown-Eudy, Noah and Michael Pommenville, and Tyler, Dylan and Madelyn Van Duzer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a great loving and giving person. She was always thinking of others. She was wonderful person and will be sorely missed.
Calling hours will be Saturday, November 24th from 2 to 5 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Burial will be private at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
