ALBANY – Donald D. Foley, 96, beloved husband of Elizabeth M. (Shafer) Foley, formerly of Delmar, son of the late Alice D. Rose and James Rose, passed peacefully at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany on Saturday, June 7, 2014 after a long illness.
He is also survived by a daughter, Carol A. Vanne of Greenwich, NY; daughter, Patricia L. Coleman (Dennis) of Delmar, grandson, Michael P. Lynch (Lara) and 2 great grandchildren, Liam and Francesca Lynch of Bennington, VT; and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by a brother, Maurice W. Foley.
After graduating from Cornell University in 1940, Don briefly worked for the N.Y.S. Health Dept. before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During WW II, he was a Sergeant serving as medical technician in various areas of the European Theater and North African campaign.
Don was retired from the N.Y.S. Dept. of Environmental Conservation in 1973 after 35 years of service as a wildlife biologist. Don enjoyed spending time with his wife and family and his many varied interests included fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, photography, wine making, wood working and reading.
A memorial service will be held 11 am Thursday, June 12th at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
