GLENMONT - Dolores "Dolly" Marcella Hospodar made her peaceful journey home on May 9, 2015 after a brief illness. Born on April 13, 1928 in Luzerne Pa. she was the daughter of John and Agnes Savakinus. She was the oldest of seven. She married the love of her life Paul Hospodar on July 5, 1951. Together in Swoyersville PA they raised their son Paul P. Hospodar. Dolores was devoted to her family and enjoyed weekend polka dances with her husband and neighborhood friends at the local VFW. Her true passion was to feed everyone! She was an excellent cook and baker. Family and friends looked forward to her potato pancakes, pigs in the blanket, nut and poppy seed rolls and other favorites.
Dolores was a hard worker, "a little work never hurt anyone. " She was employed at the local Cigar and Shirt factories and was a domestic helper. Following her husband's death in August 1983 she started a second job at the Nesbitt Hospital sharing her love of cooking in the Hospitality Shop. She worked to support her family and send her son Dr. Paul Hospodar to medical school.
She moved to Glenmont NY to the Van Allen Apartments in 2006 to be closer to her son, daughter in law Mary Ann, and grandchildren Paul, Sarah and Nicholas Hospodar. Here she became everyone's Nana! She loved to attend her grandchildren's activities and worshiped at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.
Dolores precedes her parents Agnes & John Savakinus, brothers, John, Robert, Gus, Ludwig, and sister Betty Ann Savakinus. She is survived by her immediate family and sister Joanie Robbins (Wayne) of Wyoming PA, and sister in law Carol Savakinus (Ludwig) of Luzerne PA and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank our Quail Hollow family for making Nana apart of their family; including her in celebrations and checking in on her. Darlene and Joanne from Joylnn's Hair and Salon thank you for making Nana feel beautiful and special each week! Thanks too to her neighbors at Van Allen's for their friendship over the years. Lastly we want to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Albany Medical Center, Dr. Sami and 3BWest you really are the BEST! Your care and compassion shown not only to Dolores but her family as well is most appreciated. God Bless you and your family!
