VAIL, AZ - Deacon Charles Joseph Whalen, 80, of Vail, AZ went home to God on Saturday March 17, 2018 with his loving wife, Lorraine at his side. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in upstate NY where he owned and operated a Mobil Station in Clifton Park for 24 years. After retiring to Tequesta, FL, he ultimately moved to Tucson, AZ where he served as a deacon at Our Mother of Sorrows for the last 12 years. Charles was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas and his mother, Elizabeth Agnes (Brunner). He is survived by his wife Lorraine; his brother, Jack; his four children, Maureen, Mary, Charles and Timothy; his step-sons, Robert, Michael and John; his grandchildren, Steven, Katelyn, Maggie, Ryan, Olivia, Judson, Sean, Celeste, Andrew, Mariah, Matthew, Meghan, Lily, and Samuel. Charles loved his family and treasured his Catholic faith. He enjoyed boating and fishing, horses and especially loved to tell a joke. He will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service will be held 10 am Saturday, March 24th at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. There will be no calling hours.
