Dawne V. McHugh

Dawne V. McHugh, 92, born on January 11, 1932, in Albany, passed away peacefully on October 6 2024, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, surrounded by her loving family. 

Dawne was the beloved daughter of the late Edwin K. and Veronica E. (Lynch) Schumaker. She nurtured a loving family that includes her daughters, Gail Douglas (Ken) and Barbara Lasnik (Stuart); her son, Bernie McHugh (Kim); and her daughter, Kathleen McHugh. She was also a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren: Dawne Helligrass (Bob), Kevin Hazzard (Sabrina), Brendan McHugh (Christine), Kyle McHugh (Neidy), Anthony, Amy, and Alex Lasnik, and Alicia Barnett (Jordan); ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dawne's passion for life was evident in her love of family gatherings and entertaining, which were the cornerstone of her happiness. Throughout her life, she and her husband, the late Bernard J. McHugh, did everything together, whether playing tennis and golf, or traveling cross-country and overseas, creating memories with her brother and sister-in-law that would last a lifetime.  Dawne loved the races, going to the casino and playing cards with friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Bernard, her daughter Kyle Ann McHugh, her son William McHugh, granddaughter Jacqueline McHugh, and brother Richard Schumaker (Joan).

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont..
