ALBANY, NY - Cynthia Taylor MacKenzie, 81, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital on March 15, 2013. She was born April 16, 1931 in Rochester, NY to Dean H. and Elizabeth B. Taylor. She attended schools in Rochester and Buffalo, NY including Buffalo Seminary. She graduated from Bradford College, North Andover, MA and the Tobe Coburn School in Manhattan, NY. She married Duncan W. MacKenzie in 1958 where she was a buyer for Sibley's in Rochester and soon after moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Labrador, Canada. Both her son, Duncan R. MacKenzie and daughter, Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Pooler were born at Goose Bay Air Force Base. The family returned to the United States and settled in Hadley MA. The family moved to Williamstown, MA where Cynthia worked in retail eventually founding Youthland, a store specializing in children's apparel. Cynthia moved to Albany following the passing of her husband in 2006. She loved to shop, collect glassware including commemorative ceramic shoes and cobalt souvenirs from the pre-WWI era and was an avid horticulturalist. Cynthia was a proud member of the Delmar Progress Club and was a volunteer at the First United Methodist Church of Delmar thrift shop. She gained many wonderful relationships from both affiliations. Cynthia was predeceased by her husband Duncan W. and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Amy of Delmar, NY, daughter and son-in-law Kevin of Bryn Mawr, PA; her four grandchildren, Danielle Pooler, Richard Pooler, Duncan W. MacKenzie and Abigail MacKenzie; in-laws James and Jane (MacKenzie) Davidson of Mendham, NJ and their children Duncan Davidson, Earle Davidson and Julie (Davidson) Hassan. Services are private at the convenience of the family. For those who wish, a donation in Cynthia's name can be made to Community Hospice Inn, St. Peters' Hospital, 315 S. Manning Blvd, Albany NY 12208.
