DELMAR- "Cindy" went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at home surrounded by her family after a courageous struggle with cancer. Cindy was born in Delmar on April 26, 1957 to Robert and Barbara (Pakenham) Green. She was a 1975 graduate of Bethlehem Central High School. Cindy went on to study horticulture at SUNY Cobleskill and following graduation was employed at Schultz Garden Center where she met the first love of her life, John Lamitie. They were married 34 years before John passed away in 2013. Cindy and John have two children Kirk A. Lamitie (Bonnie) of Lombard, Ill. and Sarah Ashley Lamitie of Latham, NY and one stepson Christopher (Tina) Lamitie of Chicago, Ill. Cindy has one granddaughter, Aine Lily, daughter of Kirk and Bonnie. Cindy is also survived by her husband Robert Krieger, brother Jeffery (Audrey), sister Laura (Brian) Collier, brother-in-law David (Nannette) Lamitie, and several nieces and nephews.
For a number of years Cindy ran her own florist business, but Cindy spent much of her 34 years with John doing what she enjoyed most, keeping a wonderful home and raising their two children in a loving Christian environment. Cindy also pursued her second passion of early childhood education where most recently she taught kindergarten at the Spotted Zebra Learning Center in Colonie, NY.
While Cindy spent most of her 60 years in Delmar, she and John lived in Yorba Linda CA for 9 years. Throughout her life she was guided by her faith in Jesus, love of children and family, and the confidence that all things work for good for those that love God (Rom 8:28). Wherever she lived she was always active in her church. Cindy was a long-time member in the First United Methodist Church of Delmar, attended Yorba Linda United Methodist Church and since 2011 has been a member of Connecting Point Church in East Greenbush. Cindy found great satisfaction in maintaining a peaceful, loving home, where family and friends were always welcome and laughter filled the air. Cindy also enjoyed many happy times on her beloved Cape Cod, first at the family home in Truro and later in Harwich where she and John had a house and where Cindy could often be found with a paint brush in her hand; thus her unofficial epitaph: "That needs painting!"
In July of 2016 Cindy and Robert Krieger were married. Cindy and Bob had known each other for 45 years and shared the joy of a deep abiding faith. When they wed, Cindy gained three stepdaughters and eleven more grandchildren. They were blessed to have their dozen grandchildren sing at their wedding. While married less than 10 months, Cindy and Bob managed to pack a lifetime of love into those months. And they never ceased to marvel at, and give thanks for; all God had done to bring them together.
Special thanks to our church families, the Spotted Zebra family of friends, the staffs of NYOH and Community Hospice, and so many others who supported us during Cindy's illness. You all blessed us so.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Delmar on Saturday, May 13th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Connecting Point Church, PO Box 5, East Greenbush, NY 12061 or First United Methodist Church of Delmar, 428 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar NY 12054.
