DELMAR - Clair "Stan" Snyder, 88, of Delmar, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Tuscarora, NY on June 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Francis and Myrtle (Rusby) Snyder. Stan was a graduate of Northside High School and Syracuse University. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he honorably served his country during WW II and the Korean War. For over 30 years, Stan was employed by the New York Telephone Co., retiring as an engineering supervisor in 1980.
Stan loved the Adirondacks and spending time with his family at their cabin. He was an avid camper and fisherman and enjoyed canoeing. A very creative person, he enjoyed woodcarving and woodworking. Stan had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ravena was a driver for the Town of Bethlehem Senior Services and a Red Cross volunteer, and played bass drum with the Village Volunteer Fife and Drum Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Millicent N. (Beckwith) Snyder and children, James F. Snyder of Albany, Larry Snyder of Selkirk and Nancy Ballantyne and husband Lewis of Charlton. He was also the grandfather of Rachel Anderson, Marla Snyder and Wilson and James Ballantyne.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held on Friday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
