Charlotte H. Rounds

June 14, 1937 — December 24, 2024

Slingerlands

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Charlotte H. Rounds of Slingerlands, NY, at the age of 87, on December 24, 2024.

Charlotte is survived by her step-sister, Janet Gydesen of Lyons Falls, NY; her son, Craig S. Rounds (Lisa) of East Greenbush, NY; and her daughter, Kimberly S. Cummins (David) of Stafford Springs, CT.  She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Steven Rounds (Crystal) of Bronx, NY; Bryan Rounds (Elizabeth) of East Greenbush, NY; Shawn Cummins of Austin, TX; and Evan Cummins of Monterey, CA.  Additionally, she is survived by great-grandchildren Henry, Max, Alex, and Cameron, along with many dear friends.

Charlotte was preceded in death by David Hynes, her long-time companion of over 30 years.

Born on June 14, 1937, in Boonville, NY, Charlotte was the daughter of Erwin and Thelma (Danks) Hargrave.  She was educated in Boonville and Norwich, NY, graduating from Boonville High School in 1954.  Charlotte then attended St. Lawrence University, earning a BA in Business.  During her time there, she served as president of the Kappa Delta Sorority and was active in the Laurentian Singers and Swing Wing.  She later completed graduate courses in education at The College of St. Rose and Russell Sage College.

Charlotte enjoyed a long teaching career, beginning with two years in Whitesboro, NY, followed by a position in the Bethlehem School District from 1970 until her retirement in 1996.  After retiring, she continued substitute teaching in Bethlehem, Guilderland, and St. Brigid's for several years.

Following her retirement, Charlotte and Dave traveled extensively and spent winters in a vibrant 55+ community in Riverview, Florida.  There, she played piano in a band, sang in the chorus, square danced, played for Sunday chapel services, and enjoyed many wonderful days at her favorite spot, the beach.  Her interests included square and round dancing, cryptography, travel, and yearly family beach vacations in Ocean City, MD, and Rhode Island.  She also loved helping others, reading, and attending her grandchildren's baseball games and other extracurricular activities.

Charlotte was an active member of several organizations, including the American Cryptogram Association, Single Squares Square Dance Club, and the Kappa Delta Alumnae Association.

Volunteering and giving back to the community were important to Charlotte.  She volunteered at Bellevue Women's Hospital, Community Caregivers, and the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless (IPH).

Most recently, she served as a receptionist and assistant director for activities at Elderwood Village in Colonie, where she deeply loved working with the residents and her co-workers, whom she considered her second family.

The most important message Charlotte wanted to convey was, "Family has always been the most important aspect of my life! I love being with my children, grandkids, and great-grandkids!"

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love touched so many lives.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Charlotte was a communicant of Delmar Reformed Church and a member of the Bell Choir.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Delmar Reformed Church, located at 386 Delaware Ave, Delmar, NY, on January 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlotte's honor to the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless at 315 Sheridan Ave, Albany, NY 12210.
