Carolina Westergren, an artist of Albany and Delmar, New York, died on November 25 after a long illness.
Carolina was born to Swedish parents in London and spent her early childhood in the United Kingdom and Sweden. She graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1985.
Showing early talent as a painter, she attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and later the Maryland Institute College of Art, graduating with honors in painting. Illness forced her to withdraw from the College of Saint Rose in Albany where she was pursuing a master of arts degree in art education.
Carolina has been living in Albany for the last twenty five years. Her vividly colorful expressionist paintings were shown at a number of local art shows in the Capital District and she had many admirers among local art collectors.
Carolina leaves behind her parents Gunilla Westergren of Glenmont, New York, and Ian Westergren of Port Ewen, New York as well as her sister Charlotta Westergren with husband Mark and young son Alec, all of Brooklyn, New York.
Carolina will be remembered by her family and friends at a ceremony at 2 pm Sunday, December 9, at Applebee Funeral Home, 401 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. Visitation will precede the service from 1 to 2 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a donation to honor Carolina's memory may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
