Bernice "Bea" Norman, 97, of Delmar, NY passed away August 19, 2024 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by members of her loving family.
Bea was born March 15, 1927 in Yonkers, NY to Sidney and Harriet (Cohen) Berney. She was the youngest of four children, all daughters. They grew up in Crestwood, NY, and graduated from Roosevelt HS. Bea would remain close to her three sisters, Dorothy, Leonie and Marjorie, throughout their lives.
Bea wed Albert Chapman Norman, Jr. November 29, 1953 in Pleasantville, NY. They were married for over fifty-seven years, until his death February 19, 2011. They raised four children, and resided, over the course of their working years, in Levittown, Pleasantville, Suffern and Southfields, all in NY state. When Albert retired in 1979, they moved to their dream home in Gt. Barrington, MA. In 2000, when the upkeep of their property became too much to handle, they moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, CT, where two of Bea's sisters were residents. During her last years, as a widow, Bea relocated to Delmar, NY, to be close to her son, David, and his family.
Bea was an excellent writer, skilled typist and voracious reader. She had great intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm for board games and an outgoing, generous spirit. She was employed over many years as a library clerk, and was especially proud of her respective long tenures at Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, NY, and Simon's Rock of Bard College in Gt. Barrington, MA.
Bea is survived by her son Albert C. Norman III (Dona) of Beverly Hills, FL, daughter Helen Mann (Roger) of Billings, MT, son David A. Norman (Starr) of Delmar, NY, grandchildren Kimberley Woodson (Steve) of Littleton, NH, Tracey Morgan (Brett) of Asheville, NC, Robert Todd Norman (Jessica) of Spring Hill, FL, Kathryn Tomlin (Christopher) of Schenectady, NY, Julie Bosman (Bruno) of Baarn, The Netherlands, Thomas Norman (Amanda) of Rensselaer, NY, eleven great-grandchildren, and many loving and supportive nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, sisters and husband, Bea was predeceased by a son, Richard Thomas Norman (1994) and a great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Norman (2020).
