Barry J. Holmes, age 74, entered into eternal life Friday, March 10, 2023. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Donald and Ruth Barton Holmes.
Barry was a NY State Tax Examiner for over 30 years before retiring and then later worked for PEF. Barry will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed dabbling in JFK theories and attempting to become a contestant on the Who Wants to be a Millionaire Game Show.
He was a US Army Veteran serving in the 3rd US Infantry Regiment “The Old Guard” at Arlington National Cemetery
Barry is survived by his wife, Susan M. Holmes: his sons, Dennis Holmes and wife LeeAnn and Steven Holmes and wife Christi; his brother Gerald Holmes and wife Mary; his in-laws, Daniel Abatto, Jean Abatto, Mary Rogers, Jeanne and Michael Jenks and Christopher Abatto. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul and Deanna Holmes and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Nancy Abatto, George Abatto, John Rogers Jr., Carol Abatto
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. The family will receive visitors at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar on Wednesday evening 4:00 to 7:00pm.
Interment will be private.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Albany Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Barry and his family during his illness.
