DELMAR -Dr. Arthur H. Tomlinson, Jr., 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
A lifelong resident of Delmar, NY, he was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. He served in the 117th Calvary and Reconnaissance Squadron 4 of the US Army in Europe during World War II.
Art served on the dental staff at Albany Medical Center for approximately 15 years and practiced dentistry in Albany for 45 years.
He was an avid and accomplished tennis player, playing regularly until he was 85 years old. He also enjoyed playing the piano, playing bridge with friends, camping, sailing and swimming in the ocean. He planned annual reunions with his high school classmates as they got on in years. Art will be remembered for many things, including his wonderful bedside manner with dental patients. He will be particularly missed for his always-sunny disposition, which shone through even during times of great hardship. He was generous, gracious and eternally upbeat.
Art was the son of the late Arthur H. Tomlinson, Sr. and Marguerite Noyes Tomlinson of Delmar. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Page Tomlinson; son, David Tomlinson of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Lisa (John Paul) Summerskill of Fleetwood, NY; his "two gems," granddaughters Brooke and Isla Summerskill; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Karen Tomlinson in October 2010.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Smith and the staff at Albany Medical Center (Building E, 3rd floor) for their care and compassion.
