Slingerlands - Ann Sipher (nee Moissinac) died on October 23rd, 2023 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center memory care facility in Troy, New York. She passed after battling several years of dementia. She was 89 years old. She was an inspired teacher, engaged citizen, caring mother and life-long lover of books, dogs and travel. She believed in the magic and adventure of childhood, loved reading and children’s literature, and enjoyed creating memorable experiences - often based on beloved children’s books - for her children, grandchildren and students.
Ann was born 19 May, 1934 in Buffalo, New York. She grew up in South Buffalo and Hamburg, New York. Her parents were Ralph Moissinac, a steel worker, and Joanna (Marquardt). She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1952 and William Smith College in 1956. She taught in Williamson, New York where she met and married Roger Sipher before graduating with a Masters degree from Syracuse University’s School of Library Science. She was a teacher and librarian at a variety of schools in New York, including SUNY Cortland, Liverpool, Truxton, McGraw, Cortland (Randall and Pomeroy Schools), Arbor Hill, and the Albany School of Humanities.
She is survived by her two children John and Kate and three grandsons, Will, JC and Marc.
