Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

Anita Calsolaro Cronin, 74, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on August 17, 2018 at Albany Medical Center from complications following emergency surgery unrelated to her brave 36 year battle with Medullary Thyroid Cancer.

Anita was born in Albany, NY on June 29, 1944 to parents Josephine and Alexander Calsolaro. She graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School and worked for New York Telephone Co. before marrying her husband of 54 years, Bob Cronin.

Anita dedicated herself to raising her sons before returning to work for over 20 years with the Bethlehem Central School District retiring in 2005. Anita was a member of the National Education Association and the Elsmere Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

While health issues interfered with more recent international travel plans of Anita and Bob, she did enjoy their many trips to the Southern Coast of Maine; San Francisco; Newport; Montreal; Quebec City and their annual trips to Arizona. Her favorites were walking the Marginal Way, viewing the hummingbirds in Ramsey Canyon Preserve near Sierra Vista and soaking in the beauty of the Red Rock panoramas in Sedona.

Above all else, Anita loved being Nana to her grandchildren. The thought of leaving them prematurely was more painful than any illness could be.

Anita’s family wants to extend their appreciation to the nursing staffs in the Surgical and Medical ICU’s at AMC for their compassionate care during her recent illness and to the physicians and staff at Mass General Hospital who followed Anita’s long bout with MTC.

In addition to her husband Bob, Anita leaves behind her beloved sons Michael (Allisa) of Loudonville, NY and Matthew of Phoenix, AZ; her loving daughter-in-law Allisa; her sister Yvonne (Tony) of Cleveland, TN; her nieces and nephews; and, most sadly, her adored grandchildren Julia, Lily and Jack.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Anita and visit with her family on Thursday, August 23 from 4-7 PM at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, NY. A brief memorial service will be held following the visitation period. If one desires, a contribution in Anita’s name can be made to one’s favorite charity.
