Alexandra L. Williams

1993 — June 6, 2023

Alexandra, also known as Alex and Allie, led an adventurous life, as evidenced by the place of her death on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Nagasaki, Japan.

Born in Lubbock, TX Alexandra spent most of her childhood there and in Slidell, LA. Her life as a seasoned traveler began at a young age with trips to visit her grandparents who lived in Wichita Falls, TX and Alexandria, VA. Her sense of curiosity and wonder took her and her family on many adventurous trips.

Alexandra loved learning about the world's cultures. She studied and spoke many languages and as a result has friends from many countries. At the age of 16, she decided to spend a year abroad. She searched for a challenging language to learn and decided upon Dutch, applied to exchange programs, and found a place to call home in a small town outside of Amsterdam. Living a year with her host family, Harm and Anja Vredenburg, and studying and touring Europe, she returned home fluent in the language and an expert cyclist.

After completing high school and beginning her college studies in Austin TX, Alexandra met her husband, Ryan Minter. Enjoying Austin life for a few years, they moved to the Capital Region of New York to make their home in Wilton. Continuing her education and seeking new challenges, she enrolled at SUNY (State University of New York) New Paltz and spent a year abroad at the Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies in the International Relations and Global Studies Program in Nagasaki, Japan.

Alexandra had a very creative nature. As a seamstress, she constructed clothes and dolls. She baked delicious cakes and made soap with her chemist husband. She always had a craft technique she was studying to perfect. We will have many of her projects with us forever.

Alexandra was preceded in death by her father, Philip Joseph Williams III and her grandfather, Philip Joseph Williams Jr.

Alexandra is survived by her husband, Ryan Minter of Wilton, NY, her mother, Gennie Williams of Albuquerque, NM, her brother Austin Williams of Georgetown, TX, her grandmother Sharon Williams Maxwell of Houston, TX and her grandparents Ben and Susan Gilmore of Delmar, NY, several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, and her and Ryan’s cats, Bitter Cake and Sweetie Pie.

Alexandra will be honored and remembered at a service at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar, NY on Friday, July 7th at noon. She will lie interred at St. Agnes Cemetery in Albany, NY. Alexandra cared passionately about injustices, and human trafficking was an issue she most recently embraced. The family requests any memorials be directed to Human Rights Watch at www.hrw.org.
