Obituary of Regine S. Wheatley

DELMAR-Dr. Regine Sartaine Wheatley, passed away on October 16, 2017 in Delmar, NY. Regine is survived by her daughter, Diane Wheatley Betts, and Diane's husband, Chris Betts, of Delmar; and her son, Richard Wheatley, and his wife, Adrienne Rosenberg, of Sharon, MA. Regine's grandchildren include Joseph, Henry and Sidney Betts and William Wheatley. Regine is the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Sartaine. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Wheatley, in 2012. Born in Okuniew, Poland on June 27, 1927, Regine moved with her parents to Paris, France in 1929. She then emigrated with her parents to New York City in 1949 and entered the doctoral program in dentistry at New York University in 1950. Traveling back and forth to school on the subway from Queens to Manhattan Regine became close with her fellow dental student and commuter, Patrick Wheatley. They graduated and were married in 1954. In 1957, Regine and Patrick moved to Islip, NY and set up a dental practice in their home. After retirement, they moved to Bridgehampton, NY where they lived until moving to Delmar in 2004 to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. A graveside tribute was held on October 20 at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
