Obituary of Michael D. Bartholomew

LOUDONVILLE - Michael Domnick Bartholomew, 92, passed peacefully on September 27, 2016 with his family by his side. Mike was born on May 29, 1924 to Edward D. and Angeline (nee Minelli) Bartholomew in Troy, New York. After graduating from La Salle Institute in 1942, he continued his studies in Troy in an accelerated Aeronautical Engineering program at RPI (Class of 1946) as a member of the Naval ROTC. The three-year Bachelors program was a response to WWII and, shortly after graduation, Mike served aboard the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr (DD 850) on peace keeping missions in the Pacific Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Mike returned to Albany and married the late Edith Belle (nee Roberts) Bartholomew on June 10, 1951. Together, the couple founded and successfully ran MD Bartholomew Inc. Construction Company for 30 years. Their greatest joy was their children: Michael A. Bartholomew (Frances), Dr. Catherine R. Bartholomew (Dr. Ritaccio), and Cecelia D. Broomhead (Dale). Mike was an avid runner and hiker, a lauded painter, and a builder known for the care and precision he brought to all endeavors. At family gatherings he would often play his accordion or piano. His grandchildren most enjoyed his intricately hand-painted Easter eggs and birthday cards. He was an active participant in the community, having been a member of the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club, New England 65 Plus Runners Club 2013, Albany Symphony Board, University Club and ADK Mountain Club. Despite all his extraordinary gifts, he remained humble with a winning smile and a deep devotion to his family. Mike hikes on in the memories of his children, grandchildren Alison Camarota (Michael), Michael Broomhead (Brittany), Gabrielle Ritaccio and Madeline Ritaccio, and great-grandchildren Reed Michael and Maya Mae Camarota. He is preceded in death by his brother Edward Bartholomew (Barbara) and sister Judith Prieto (late Dr. Jose). Michael will be buried in the family plot overlooking his beloved Troy, NY. Services will be privately held on Tuesday, October 4th. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Loudonville Enhanced Assisted Living Residence for their attention and care.
