Obituary of Kenneth P. Evans

DELMAR - Ken Evans, 55, died suddenly on Monday, August 1, doing what he loved – riding his bike through the hills of Delmar. Born in Schenectady, NY, he is the beloved son of the late John and Helen Evans, formerly of Scotia, NY and St. Augustine, FL. Ken attended Scotia Glenville High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's ('85) in Engineering from the University of Central Florida, MBA ('90) from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. He received his NYS teacher certification through Shenendehowa and Bethlehem School Districts ('01). He also completed 200 RYT yoga certification ('15). Ken was firmly grounded in his faith and participated in the United Ordained Church of Troy, Bethlehem Community Church, and Light of the World Christian Church of Latham. His primary focus in life was as a parent, husband, and Sunday school teacher to promote the power and love through our Healer, Redeemer and Comforter, Jesus. Ken began his professional career as an Electrical Engineer with Allied Signal Corporation – Bendix in Jacksonville, FL (1985-87). He then accepted a position as a Field Service Engineer with United Technologies Corporation (1987-90) in Windsor Locks, CT, and Minneapolis, MN. Ken was a Business Development Manager for American Property Management Corporation (1990-1999) before working as a Technology Instructor for Bethlehem & Shenendehowa Central School Districts (1999-2001). As primary care provider of his four children (2002-2016), he also held positions as a Teacher with Vanderheyden Hall, an Instructor with NYACK College, as a Business Development Consultant, and as a property manager. Ken felt blessed by his relationships with his parents, siblings, children, wife, nieces, nephews and friends, and often felt angels were seemingly placed for his support and encouragement. His father served as his best man at his wedding, and to both parents he owed his positive faithful outlook on life. He found joy conducting chair yoga for the elderly residents at Atria Delmar Place, coordinating summer training for the Bethlehem Triathlon Club, and snowboarding in the northeast. He provided much joy with his annual camping trips to Lake George, his bountiful squash soup, and his daily acts of love. He is survived by his four children: Mark of Brooklyn, Daniel (Alysa Shaw) of Delmar, Jack of Delmar, and Julia (Dean Fuino) of Delmar. Ken stated, "My children have been so much more kind and giving than they needed to be. Mark offered me such support when business and marriage was most rigorous; Danny, laughter when I was at my wits end; Jack, kindness when we all needed it most; Julia, Joy." He is the brother of Mary (John) Cox of Millersville, MD, John (Donna) of Raleigh, NC, Dave (Jaime) of Albany, and Kay (Ken) Champagne of Latham. Ken also leaves eight nieces and nephews. Ken leaves behind his devoted partner in life and love, Sarah Vogel, and her children Caitlyn and Patrick. Sarah shared his love of life and athletics, competing in Ironman and bike riding the roads of Thatcher Park. He also leaves behind his friend and Ex-wife of 28 years, Sandy Evans, whom together raised four beautiful children. From Ken, "My friends, you are the reason that I kept care of myself and lived as carefully as I did. To have just one more day to know that I mean something to you is a gift that I cannot begin to describe. Your names are all in my head right now as much as my daily thoughts of you. I know that I did not deserve you, thus you have all been heaven sent. Please don't ask if you are one of those friends. You know you are. See you soon." Please join us for a Memorial Service on Sunday, August 14, at 3:00 p.m. at the Appel Inn, Altamont, followed by a Celebration of Life. Contributions may be made to United Ordained Church, 292 3rd Street, Troy, NY 12180.
