Obituary of Ann M. Pioggia

GUILDERLAND Ann M. Pioggia of Guilderland passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Born and raised in Albany, Ann was the daughter of the late James F. Martin, Sr. and Sarah Holle Martin. She graduated from the Academy of The Holy Names and Mildred Elley Business College. She raised her family and then went on to work for over 30 years as Senior Administrative Assistant to the Director at the State University of New York Atmospheric Sciences Research Center. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ted Fitzgerald, James, Francis, Vincent and John Martin and her beloved son, Martin Ionescu-Pioggia. Ann was the cherished wife of Frank B. Pioggia for 45 years until his death on July 4, 2005. She was the devoted mother of five children, Holle Garvey (Philip) of Westfield MA., Linda Pioggia of Saratoga Springs, Frank J. Pioggia of Halfmoon and his partner Kay Cleary and Kathleen Hughes (Michael) of Albany. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Christian, Bradford, and Ansel Garvey, Kieran (Kim) and Sarah Ionescu and Jason Hughes. She has two great grandchildren, Addi and Freddy Ionescu of North Carolina. Ann will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style, her love of gardening and antiquing. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed British Drama on Public television. She looked forward to the daily crosswords, vacations with her family on the Cape and in Florida. She had many lifelong friends and relatives including Charles and Frances Zollinger, Eddie and Maureen O’Connor, Mary Anastasi, Daryl Morris, Marilyn Ostroff and Savannah. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Emergency Department and Critical Care Units at Albany Medical Center for their compassion and professionalism. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services Tuesday April 14, 2015 at 10 am at Christ the King Church Guilderland, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
