Obituary of Valerie K. Slattery

DELMAR - Valerie Karen Slattery, age 61, of Delmar, passed away after a long battle with Leukemia on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Valerie was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to her parents M. Kenneth and Janet Baxter, who both predeceased her. Valerie is survived by her beloved son John K. Slattery. She is also survived by her brothers James and John Baxter, John's daughter Jessica Baxter, as well as her Aunt Mary and Uncle Tony Paleczka. Valerie worked for over 20 years for the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. She enjoyed reading, cooking and the outdoors. Valerie wishes to thank her family and her three good childhood friends who helped her through the last stage of this journey. Family and friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 pm on Saturday October 18, 2014 at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar. Services and burial will be private at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Valerie’s name may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, or a charity of ones choosing.
