Obituary of Elizabeth Kerrigan

DELMAR - Elizabeth (Betty) Kerrigan, 81, died Wednesday morning, July 27, 2011 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Anne Wallace Gosson. The family grew up in the Tipperary Hill section of the city. Betty attended LeMoyne College where she met and married her beloved late husband, William. Betty was the first female member of the LeMoyne College radio club. She was employed at WHEN Syracuse, in the early days of broadcast TV as a traffic and programming manager. After her marriage in 1952, she moved to New York City with her husband and worked as a passenger representative for a Hawaiian steamship company (Matson Lines), owners of the Royal Hawaiian Cruise Line. Betty earned her BA in Social Science from the College of St. Rose. She was a real estate broker with Pagano Webber in Delmar for 25 years. Betty was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar and was an Extraordinary Minister of Eucharist at St. Peter's Hospital. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society's Wednesday morning scripture group and the Tuesday afternoon prayer group. Betty was a member of the Capital Region Literary Guild. She was one of the original founders of Birthright of Albany. Betty traveled to Hawaii, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, the Holy Land and made a pilgrimage to Italy for the 2000 Vatican Jubilee. Betty is survived by her three children, Anne Colleen Anderson, Mark and Bill Kerrigan, a brother Richard Gosson, a sister Ann Gadbaw, six grandchildren and a great grandchild. She was predeceased by a brother, John Gosson. Relatives and friends may call at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar on Friday, July 29 from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar on Saturday, July 30, at 10 AM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY.
